# Learning objectives

1. Understand the definitions, allowed usage, digital identification and licensing of open data

2. Know about common open data sources, how they are used and effectively search for new sources

3. Explain the differences between data collection methods and the limitations for data analysis

4. Work with the range of different data formats of open data, including APIs

5. Understand ethical constraints and privacy limits when working with open data

6. Recognise the components of effective curation needed for open data.

* Weekly quizzes on [FLUX](https://flux.qa/#/login) **due before FRI 10 AM** (20%)
* There are no quizzes during the mid-semester break.
* Your lowest two quiz marks are not counted (i.e. you can miss two without any penalty).

* Assignment 1 **due Week 4** (20%)
* Assignment 2 **due Week 7** (20%)
* Assignment 3 **due Week 10** (20%)

* Assignments are released two weeks before the due date, you should get started on it as soon as it is released. 
* If for some reason you miss submitting an assignment, through illness, or personal difficulty, the procedure to follow is (1) notify the CE within seven days of the due date,  at ETC5512.Clayton-x@monash.edu, (2)  you will be awarded the lowest score from the other three for the missed assignment. Failure to submit and notify the CE accordingly will result in a zero score for the assignment. If you miss more than one assignment you will need to re-take the unit at a later date.
